Jess - A Year 11 Meditator with Mandy Johnson
As young people, our minds are constantly buzzing with thoughts of our everyday lives - it's mad! It's no wonder our generation gets so stressed and anxious. What can we do about it? There are quite a few remedies out there, and one thing that helped me was meditating.
At first, it can take a bit of getting used to because my mind likes to be busy, perpetually bringing up my worries and all of those lovely things. After a while, you get into this rhythm where you can still feel things happening in your brain, but in that moment, they just don't affect you. When you come back to those things, you find that you can approach them with a sense of rationality and think about them more.
As teenagers, it's so easy to be irrational, but Meditation is a great way to give your thinking mind a bit of a much-needed rest. Then it becomes a much better working machine. If it's not something that works for you, that's okay too, but I would say give it a proper chance and don't worry about looking silly - everyone else is doing it!
Also, there's no need to say 'Ommmmmmm….' and sit in that odd position, that's just distracting!
